WEA |
The WEA (the Workers Educational Association) is an excellent provider of part-time short non-examination educational courses for all adults. As of mid 2023 there were no face-to-face Politics or Philosophy courses available locally but some tempting offerings on-line. |
Bournemouth u3a |
Bournemouth u3a have several Philosophy groups. Other local u3a groups are also to be found in the major towns and some villages and suburbs in Dorset. |
Oxford University Continuing Education |
Currently (April 2022) 110 Philosophy and 121 Politics offerings including some on-line. Introductory Politics on-line course has Tansey & Jackson as required reading! |
Southampton University Lifelong Learning |
Southampton's Lifelong Learning Programme is on a limited scale - but has some interesting offerings including the Philosophy Cafe and Politics Study Days. In October 2023 there will be an interesting introductory short Philosophy evening course. You can also take a first degree in Philosophy or Philosophy & English on a part-time basis. The Philosophy Department hosts a series of open seminars sponsored by the Royal Institute of Philosophy - but these are often quite technical. |

The Media School has an innovative full time undergraduate course in Politics with emphasis on modern media, and postgraduate courses on Political Psychology and International Political Communications.At first degree level Politics can also be combined with Law, Sociology or Economics. There are is no Philosophy or Extra-Mural Department - but the Annual Festival of Learning is worth investigating. |
